About Us
The Boston Adult Literacy Fund (BALF) is a nonprofit organization that supports literacy efforts for adults and their families. Literacy is life changing. Although the adults we work with have literacy goals ranging from an enhanced ability to communicate in English to a need for high school credentials, all of them believe literacy acquisition is the first step in improving their lives.

Our Mission
The Boston Adult Literacy Fund opens access to basic education for adults so they can achieve their goals as parents, workers, and community members.

The Boston Adult Literacy Fund mobilizes private funds and public awareness to strengthen adult basic education in Boston. Aware of the dynamic nature of literacy, BALF works with communities to help them use their assets to meet their literacy needs.

The Boston Adult Literacy Fund supports literacy through its grants and free technical assistance to Greater Boston adult literacy programs. BALF awards scholarships to adults who graduate from these programs and are going to college. The Boston Adult Literacy Fund also creates initiatives to respond to specific literacy challenges in the communities we serve.
