Boston Adult Literacy Fund Technical Assistance

The Boston Adult Literacy Fund provides free technical assistance to any community-based literacy program in Greater Boston. We know it is crucial to build the organizational capacity of literacy programs. Helping literacy programs grow stronger leads to more vital and resilient neighborhoods and provides leadership for other community organizations.

The Boston Adult Literacy Fund gives technical assistance through consultations, workshops, and on-site mentoring. Topics include: board development, proposal writing, special event planning, donor solicitation and cultivation, and community involvement.

Since some of the most effective assistance programs can receive comes from their peers, the Boston Adult Literacy Fund holds a yearly Sharing Meeting of all its funded programs. Two adult learners, a teacher, and an administrator from each program come together to discuss topics they chose as critical to their functioning.

"BALF responded quickly and effectively in this [funding] crisis. Your assistance may have meant the difference between an organization's staying open and closing its doors…Your assistance was offered in an approachable spirit that empowered the directors of these…organizations to address their fiscal and organizational setbacks with realistic and do-able plans."
-S. Wallen
"The time you spent with us sharing your experience with and knowledge of corporate spelling bees has been truly invaluable to our planning process."
- R. Wardall
